Yesterday, I was formally announced as Derbyshire Green Party's candidate for the Wingerworth and Shirland division in the upcoming Derbyshire County Council Elections.
It is an honour to represent my community and be the local face of the bold vision which Derbyshire Green Party is setting out for our communities. We have a plan which looks to transform our communities in the wake of the climate crisis and pandemic. You can read our full manifesto here.
I know that we have the passion and enthusiasm in Wingerworth and Shirland to tackle the issues which lay before us. We are a community of adaptable and progessive individuals, businesses and organisations, all of whom are keen to move forward and prosper. I am keen to invest in local services and infastructure in order to ensure that we have the support and resilliance in our communities to hold off future crisis and allow future generations to thrive. For too long we have been ignored and the thinking of councilors has been shortsighted and disconnected. We need to think in a holistic way and ensure that our communities work for us all. I am committed to doing that. I want us to be at the forefront of the green transition, ready to take advantage of the opportunities which lie ahead.
Looking back on previous results, it looks like I am the only opposition candidate who can defeat the current conservative councillor. Labour have historically struggled in this division and are now standing a candidate who does not even live in the ward, likewise the liberal democrats are fielding a candidate who lives outside the boundaries of our division. This election is between myself, a local resident and parish councillor in Wingerworth, and the conservative candidate. The conservatives have been in power here for over a decade and our communities are desperate for change. It looks like this is going to be an interesting election with every vote counting.
I hope you will join me in fighting for a future that we can all be proud of. I look forward to what lies ahead and all that we can achieve together.
