A plan to plant hundreds of trees around Wingerworth, put together by Frank, was adopted by Wingerworth Parish Council earlier this year. The Woodland Trust are scheduled to deliver the first tranche, about 270 trees, in November and they are set to be planted across the village’s main parks. Frank and the local council are keen to involve the community and local schools in a tree planting event. Some of these trees will be planted to create ‘hedgehog highways’ and allow local wildlife to thrive. Alongside this ambitious tree planting programme are separate plans for bulb planting around the village, an array of picnic tables and benches, and the expansion of the wildflower area on Chartwell Park.
