One of Frank’s goals when he first joined Wingerworth Parish Council (WPC) was to get more young people involved in the political process. As the youngest member of WPC – by quite some way – he feels a duty to make sure our village works for everyone.
Many of the people that have most inspired Frank are younger than him and he is therefore “desperate to unlock the potential of young people which is so often overlooked”.
A council initiative, started by Frank, asked young people on our parks asked what matters to them. It is important to Frank that this happens across Derbyshire and so he was thrilled to have the opportunity to share these ideas with the Derbyshire Association of Local Councils last month.
He has since been asked to help several other councils achieve this. Frank said, “I’m fed up with politicians telling us [young people] what we want” and he is therefore working hard to set up a Youth Council. This group of young people would be able to help inform Council decisions, would have a real power over local issues and would help shape their future!
